Who to contact and when for substitute teachers in relation to NISTR.  

These points will also answer some frequently asked questions.  Read each section.

Contact the School that makes the booking

  • When a booking is not created on the NISTR service for work completed or future work requested.
    • A booking needs to be created for payment processes.
  • Not being found by a school
    • make sure your availability is correct and that a school trying to book you is in your include list.
    • If a school creates a booking with a subject not in your teaching list, you will not be found for that booking search.
  • Booking not signed off by a school (does not have to be completed immediately by a school as DE payroll process is a monthly process).
  • Booking queires before a booking has been exported from the NISTR system.  A booking is exported if it has a date in brackets beside the sign off date
  • Incorrect information on a booking before it is signed off or exported.
    • Signoff and exported dates can be viewed on the booking quick view.  A booking is exported if it has a date in brackets beside the sign off date (once a booking is exported it cannot be modified on the NISTR system).

  • Payroll queries when a booking has been exported from the NISTR system.
    • A booking is exported if it has a date in brackets beside the sign off date (once a booking is exported it cannot be modified on the NISTR system).

NOTE 
Voluntary Grammar schools submit monthly returns to the Department of Education’s Teachers Pensions Team detailing employee and employer scheme contributions as well as service details for all substitute teachers. Substitute teachers working in a Voluntary Grammar school are paid direcly by the the school and not the DE Teachers Pay Team.

Contact NISTR administration staff

  • Please make sure you have read the user guide before contacting administration staff.  The user guide is available when you login. 
  • New registration queries
    • check our new registration page first to make sure you have completed all required stages.
    • the NISTR system will email you when a change happens regarding your registration.  You can also login to the system to check your registration progress.  It takes time for staff to process applications as they have to complete various checks.  Delays can also be due to waiting on an enhanced disclosure check.
    • If all the registration stages are not complete you will not be active on the system for booking.  A school should not book a substitute teacher until they are live on the system for booking (DE payroll only process bookings made on the NISTR system.).  There will be no preferential fast tracking treatment. 
  • Your NISTR details
    • administration staff cannot modify your NISTR details. You must login to keep these up to date.
  • School bookings
    • administration staff cannot create, edit or sign off bookings
  • Availability
    • you can be booked when marked as unconfirmed or available. This permits the creation of current, future and retrospective bookings.
  • Not being found by a school
    • make sure your availability is correct and that a school trying to book you is in your included list.
    • If a school creates a booking with a subject not in your teaching list, you will not be found for that booking search.
  • Not being booked
    • being registered on the NISTR system does not guarantee that a school will book you.
  • System Issues
    • system errors.
    • device compatibility issues (older devices and older browser versions may not work with all aspects of the system).
